Volunteers currently support general Memphis Tilth operations and to programs like GrowMemphis and Bring It Food Hub. Since our work is seasonal, different programs have volunteer needs depending on the time of year.
Memphis Tilth has seven programs, providing a vast array of engagement opportunities for interested volunteers. In particular, volunteers play a critical role in helping us start and sustain community gardens.
Large projects such as building, planting, mulching, and harvesting garden beds are ideal for high volunteer engagement. Working with volunteers also helps us strengthen our ties with the community; we often engage volunteers from local universities, businesses, and congregational groups.
Our programs also have many administrative needs, especially in administering events and communications. We invite interns, fellows, and sustaining volunteers to work with us on an administrative level to gain a stronger understanding of nonprofit management.
Volunteers currently assist Memphis Tilth operations with events, development activities (Salesforce), and clerical needs. Volunteers also help the GrowMemphis program with garden labor, events, community outreach, and general administration. Bring It Food Hub volunteers help with packing produce bags, community outreach, and general admininistration.
Volunteers are a critical part of our success at Memphis Tilth! Since June 2016, Memphis Tilth volunteers have accumulated over 2,000 hours of operational and programmatic support.
