Memphis Tilth has successfully achieved Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Handling Practices (GHP) certification from the the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Garden and at our nearby St. Paul Garden. We are leading the charge in GAP and GHP certification: our gardens are the first to be certified in West Tennessee, and the St. Jude Garden is one of few hospitals in the nation to also achieve GAP/GHP certification.
Be sure to read this amazing article from Kevin Krueger, Procurement & Sustainability Manager of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In his words, "The decision to pursue GAP and GHP certification was motivated in part by our focus on purchasing more locally grown food, starting with a commitment to buy at least 20,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables from local farms via Memphis Tilth in 2018. Since we are requiring that farms who wish to participate in that program be GAP certified, we felt that it only made sense to hold our own growing urban farm to the same standard."
Memphis Tilth is featured in St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Summer 2017 Promise magazine issue, highlighting Tilth’s partnership with the hospital to manage their garden and serve as a source of local food.
