Food Advisory Council for Memphis and Shelby County

The Food Advisory Council for Memphis and Shelby County (FAC) is a diverse array of metropolitan Memphis constituents, who meet regularly to promote well-researched and evaluated policies and regulations designed to enhance local food economics, in partnership with farmer advisory boards comprised of urban, suburban and rural growers.

The FAC is a community council; in the past, GrowMemphis acted as the sponsor for the council. Since the formation of the Tilth, the Tilth is now the sponsor of the FAC. The Food Policy Program is a program under Memphis Tilth and the FAC is a project of the Food Policy Program.

In Good Tilth is a food policy handbook and resource guide that educates the public on current policies and how they affect Memphis and Shelby County. The handbook highlights the good work of local nonprofits, governmental agencies, the private sector, schools, and community members.

The Memphis Local Food Guide was an initiative of the Mid-South Farmers Market Alliance, a working group of the Food Advisory Council. There is no other document or publication in Memphis that provides a comprehensive guide to the availability of local food in Memphis. This publication provides resources to access fresh and affordable local food in Memphis and Shelby County.
